Hossegor is world-famous for its waves, but what most people don’t know is that it’s also a runner’s paradise. With pine forests stretching in every direction, a scenic lake loop, and plenty of flat pistes spanning across town, this little slice of southwest France offers more than just beach breaks. Whether you’re training for a race, chasing a morning sweat, or just looking to soak in the natural beauty between surfs—here’s your guide to some of the best local running routes. All the routes start and end at the Surf House and have been carefully crafted by yours truly, so all you need to do is pick a route, lace up, and get out there.
Hossegor Lake Loops
If you want to experience beautiful scenery with a convenient running path, the Hossegor lake loop is a must. The dawn lake loop is our go-to for a quiet, meditative run—and it’s pure Hossegor magic. Starting from the Surf House just after sunrise, the loop winds around Lac d’Hossegor as it reflects the soft morning light like glass. It’s flat, scenic, and mostly shaded, making it a perfect go to easy run from our front door.
You’ll pass by cafés, seafood restaurants, and fishermen working the local oyster beds. Glimpses of sailboats and beautiful Landes style villas will appear through the pine trees showcasing the best of Hossegor- the charm and calm.
Forest Loops
The forest here isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a maze of runnable terrain, mostly flat, always beautiful, and constantly shifting with the seasons. Running in the forests around Hossegor feels like slipping into another rhythm—one where you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of a busy summer town. As spectacular as the Hossegor beaches are, we cannot recommend enough to get out in the forest and enjoy the true serenity that comes with it.
Bonus Loops
If you’re after a shorter local route that sticks to the road and stays close to home, we’ve got you covered with a cruisy 3km loop—perfect for a warm-up or a shakeout run.
And if you’re eyeing a half marathon, we’ve saved two routes just for you: one is a double forest loop for the trail lovers, and the other blends the best of both worlds—starting in the forest before finishing with a fast and flat lake loop to bring home your half mara in style.
In 2024 we completed our first ever Half Marathon in San Sebastian. We hope to keep the running vibes high, so if your considering bringing your running shoes, don’t think twice ;)
